Sixteenth-ranked Leche Rio Breogan (9-20) made lots of trouble for seventh ranked CB Canarias (17-14) in Lugo on Thursday. The visitors from Tenerife managed to secure only one-point victory 85-84. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-17. But Leche Rio Breogan won second period 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. CB Canarias made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Argentinian-Italian point guard Nicolas Richotti (183-86) fired 24 points (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. International forward Javier Beiran (200-87) chipped in 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American point guard Ray McCallum (190-91, college: Detroit Mercy) produced 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Ukrainian power forward Volodymyr Herun (208-94, college: Portland) added 14 points and 14 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Leche Rio Breogan players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for CB Canarias. They moved-up to sixth place. Leche Rio Breogan lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the sixteenth position with 20 games lost. CB Canarias will face Blusens Monbus (#13) in Santiago de Comp in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Leche Rio Breogan will play at home against Gran Canaria and hope to win that game.
