There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Thunder (1-1) won against higher ranked Rockhampton Rockets (2-3) in Loganholme 110-102 on Saturday. Thunder forced 22 Rockhampton Rockets turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 24 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. Thunder looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. Point guard Sean Carroll (180-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 36 points (!!!). American guard Rayshawn Simmons (192-93, college: Cent Michigan, agency: Two Points) contributed with 9 points, 5 rebounds, 13 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Thunder's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Shaun Bruce (190-91) answered with 32 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international center AJ Ogilvy (211-88, college: Vanderbilt) added 23 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Rockhampton Rockets. Thunder left bottom position moving up to ninth place in League. Loser Rockhampton Rockets dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. Thunder will face South West Metro Pirates (#13) in Runcorn in the next round.
