The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (16-8) in Mazatlan on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by seventh ranked Venados (12-14) 89-84. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rayos de Hermosillo. Venados made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Nick Waddell (200-89, college: Grand Valley St.) who helped to win the game recording 27 points and Jamaican-American Akeem Scott (185-83, college: High Point) who added 12 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Scott is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was American forward Jeremy Hollowell (203-94, college: Georgia St.) with 30 points and his fellow American import forward Joel James (208-94, college: UNC) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. Five Venados and four Rayos de Hermosillo players scored in double figures. Venados maintains seventh position with 12-14 record. Rayos de Hermosillo at the other side still keeps top place with eight games lost. Venados are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (#9) at home in the next round. Rayos de Hermosillo will play against Tijuana Zonkeys (#5) and is hoping to win this game.
