Very important is a home loss of third ranked Phoenix (3-1) against twelfth ranked Brisbane Spartans (2-4) on Sunday night. Host Phoenix was defeated by Brisbane Spartans in a tough game in Cotton Tree 100-105. Brisbane Spartans dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Phoenix's 44. Brisbane Spartans forced 21 Phoenix turnovers. Phoenix was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Chris Whitehead (175-92, college: Bellarmine) who helped to win the game recording 29 points and 5 assists and forward Josh Derksen (206-95, college: Ky Wesleyan) who added 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Brisbane Spartans' coach used entire bench in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American forward Eric McAlister (204-90, college: Stony Brook) with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and naturalized New Zealand guard Zeke Meehl (181-88) scored 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Brisbane Spartans and four Phoenix players scored in double figures. Brisbane Spartans moved-up to tenth place in League. Loser Phoenix dropped to the fifth position with one game lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
