Rather expected game when 8th ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (13-14) were crushed on the road by sixth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (13-15) 109-62 on Friday. Caballeros de Culiacan made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Caballeros de Culiacan outrebounded Pioneros Los Mochis 43-27 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Pioneros Los Mochis' players. Americans were the main players on the court. Forward Sammy Yeager (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) stepped up and scored 20 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and point guard Jeffery Stubbs (189-91, college: Jackson St.) chipped in 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Five Caballeros de Culiacan players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory Caballeros de Culiacan went down to seventh position due to points difference. Loser Pioneros Los Mochis dropped to the fifth place with 14 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will face higher ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against Venados in Mazatlan and hope to win that game.
