Everything went according to plan when third ranked Geelong Supercats (10-6) defeated at home 11th ranked NW Tasmania Thunder (6-9) 79-74 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Geelong Supercats forced 20 NW Tasmania Thunder turnovers. Naturalized British forward Lewis Thomas (203-92, college: W.Oregon) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward MaAlo Hicks (201-89) contributed with 20 points and 4 steals for the winners. Geelong Supercats' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Jordan Bowling (198, college: Dalton St.) answered with 19 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import forward Nick Banyard (203-94, college: UCF) added 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for NW Tasmania Thunder. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Geelong Supercats maintains third place in League with 10-6 record having twelve points less than leader Joondalup W. Loser NW Tasmania Thunder dropped to the fourteenth position with nine games lost. Geelong Supercats will face Sabres (#18) in Cheltenham in the next round which should be an easy win for them.
