Regular Season Round 17: Eastern M. - Sturt S. 84-90

Everything could happen in Mt. Barker at the game between two tied teams. Both eleventh ranked Sturt Sabres and 10th ranked Eastern Mavericks had identical 2-12 record. But Eastern Mavericks were not able to use a home court advantage and were defeated by the opponent from Pasadena 90-84 on Saturday night. Sturt Sabres forced 20 Eastern Mavericks turnovers. Strangely Eastern Mavericks outrebounded Sturt Sabres 44-31 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Rigby Aktanarowicz orchestrated the victory by scoring 4 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman Tim Klaosen (196-89) contributed with 10 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American forward Brandon Morris (203-94, college: Benedict) answered with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and center Devon McGee (205-97) added 17 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for Eastern Mavericks. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sturt Sabres (3-12) moved-up to ninth place in League. Loser Eastern Mavericks dropped to the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Sturt Sabres will face higher ranked Noarlunga City Southern Tigers (#4) in Morphett Vale in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Eastern Mavericks will play at home against North Adelaide Rockets (#5) and hope to win that game.
