Very expected game when 18th ranked Sabres (3-11) were smashed by thirteenth ranked Bandits (6-9) in Cheltenham 107-84 on Saturday. Bandits dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Sabres' 40. They outrebounded Sabres 45-32 including 18 on the offensive glass. Sabres were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American power forward Torren Jones (206-94, college: William Penn) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 17 rebounds. Point guard Deba George (183-85) contributed with 26 points and 8 assists for the winners. The former international forward David Barlow (205-83, college: MSU Denver) answered with 25 points and 8 rebounds and swingman Sam McDaniel (198-95, college: ULM) added 21 points in the effort for Sabres. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Despite that victory Bandits went down to sixteenth position (League) due to points difference. Loser Sabres keep the eighteenth place with 11 games lost. Bandits will face higher ranked Frankston Blues (#6) in Seaford in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sabres will play on the road against Waverley Falcons (#7) in Mount Waverley and hope to win that game.
