Sixth-ranked Gulls (7-11) gave a tough game to first ranked Cougars (16-2) in Melbourne. The visitors from McKinnon managed to secure only three-point victory 112-109. However their fans expected much easier game. Cougars made 36-of-44 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game, while Gulls only scored five points from the stripe. Gulls were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Adrian Tomada notched 37 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and American forward Dillon Stith (200-92, college: St.Vincent) supported him with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 31 points and 6 rebounds by guard Mitchell Riggs (196-93, college: Newberry) did not help to save the game for Gulls. Matthew Brasser added 18 points and 7 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gulls' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cougars maintains first position in League with 16-2 record. Gulls at the other side keep the sixth place with 11 games lost. Cougars will play against Stingrays (#9) in Geelong in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gulls will play at home against the league's second-placed Hume City Broncos and hope to get back on the winning track.
