There was a surprise result when sixth ranked Cairns Marlins (8-5) outleveled at home second-best Mackay Meteors (10-4) 96-77 on Saturday. Cairns Marlins made 22-of-24 free shots (91.7 percent) during the game. Forward Fabijan Krslovic (203-95, college: Montana) had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Anthony Fisher (187-94) chipped in 25 points and 8 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) during the contest. Cairns Marlins' coach Jamie O'Loughlin used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Derick Newton (198-95, college: Stetson, agency: Players Group) with 26 points and 5 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Bryce Washington (198-96, college: La-Lafayette) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds. Four Mackay Meteors players scored in double figures. Cairns Marlins moved-up to fifth place in League. Loser Mackay Meteors dropped to the third position with four games lost. Cairns Marlins will face Rockhampton Rockets (#6) at home in the next round. Mackay Meteors will play against Townsville Heat and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
