There was no surprise in Heathmont where 17th ranked Ringwood Hawks (5-13) were defeated by third ranked Geelong Supercats (12-7) 88-77 on Saturday. Geelong Supercats looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American guard Demarcus Gatlin (193, college: SHSU) fired 26 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. His fellow American import point guard Anthony Williams (178-95, college: Clark Atlanta) chipped in 22 points and 4 assists. Worth to mention Williams played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Geelong Supercats' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Matthew Fennell (196) produced 16 points and 8 rebounds and center Adrien Sturt (209-86, college: Snow CC) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory Geelong Supercats went down to fourth position (League) due to points difference. Loser Ringwood Hawks keep the seventeenth place with 13 games lost. Geelong Supercats will have a break next round. Ringwood Hawks will play at home against NW Tasmania Thunder (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
