Regular Season Round 24: Wuhan - Henan 121-118

Ninth ranked Wuhan (8-14) saved a 3-point victory at home edging higher ranked Henan (13-9) 121-118 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Henan. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 31-23. But Henan won second period 33-26. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Wuhan won last quarter 33-31. Wuhan shot 23 for 31 from the free-throw line, while Henan only scored six points from the stripe. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Henan was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by American-Georgian guard Thaddus McFadden (188-87, college: Fairmont St., agency: Higher Vision Sports) who scored that evening 47 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 6 assists and Australian center Angus Brandt (208-89, college: Oregon St.) supported him with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Wuhan's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even a double-double of 35 points (!!!) and 23 rebounds by American Mike Harris (198-83, college: Rice) did not help to save the game for Henan. Nigerian-American point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton) added 27 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Wuhan moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Beijing. Henan at the other side keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. They share it with Chongqing. Wuhan will play against higher ranked Hunan (#4) in Changsha in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Henan will play on the road against Hefei in Nanjin and hopes to get back on the winning track.
