Regular Season Round 11: San Jose - Libertad 101-90

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked San Jose as it allowed them to take a leadership position. San Jose defeated second-ranked Libertad in Asuncion 101-90. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Libertad. It was a key game for the top position in the league. San Jose shot 69.1 percent from the field and made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. San Jose outrebounded Libertad 39-15 including a 30-9 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Scott Rogers (196, college: Trine) who scored 29 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Panamanian center Jaime Lloreda (204-80, college: LSU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). The former international point guard Manuel Aponte (179-92) produced 28 points and 4 assists and forward Guillermo Osorio (192-85) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five San Jose and four Libertad players scored in double figures. San Jose (8-3) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Olimpia and Libertad. Libertad will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. San Jose will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Olimpia. It will be extra interesting game as Olimpia is their local rival from Asuncion.
