Regular Season Round 5: Zornotza - Zamorano 75-78

There was an upset in Amorebieta-Echano where 4th placed Zornotza (3-2) was edged by eleventh ranked Zamorano (2-3) 78-75 on Saturday. Zornotza was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Slovenian guard Ziga Samar (193-1) stepped up and scored 15 points and 8 assists for the winners and forward Walter Cabral (200-95, agency: Dynamics Global Management) chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds. Four Zamorano players scored in double figures. Forward Borja Mendia (199-94, agency: Best of You Sports) responded with 23 points and 5 rebounds and Canadian guard Corey Johnson (196-96, college: Harvard) scored 17 points. Zornotza's coach Mikel Garitaonandia let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Zamorano moved-up to tenth place in Silver. Loser Zornotza keeps the fourth position with two games lost. Zamorano will face higher ranked Marbella (#8) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zornotza will play against Estela (#3) in Santander and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
