Date: October 12, 2019
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Giannena (0-1) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by Olympiacos (1-0) 100-48. Olympiacos dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Giannena's 26. Olympiacos forced 27 Giannena turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Giannena's players. Worth to mention a great performance of international guard Jacki Gemelos (182-88, college: USC) who helped to win the game recording 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Slovakian center Anna Jurcenkova (195-85) contributed with 14 points (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winners. Four Olympiacos players scored in double figures. American guard Brandy Montgomery (178-95, college: Auburn) answered with 18 points and the other American import forward Angela Tompkins (188-91, college: Wichita St.) added 13 points in the effort for Giannena. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Olympiacos is looking forward to face PAOK (#6) in Thessaloniki in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Giannena will play on the road against Kronos AD and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
