Regular Season Round 3: Fr.Mathews - IT Carlow 74-68

No shocking result in a game when Fr.Mathews (2-1) beat IT Carlow (0-3) in Cork 74-68 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Fr.Mathews forced 20 IT Carlow turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for forward Amy Murphy (179-99) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. American forward Shannon Brady (183, college: Bowdoin) accounted for 22 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Fr.Mathews' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Kaitlyn Slagus (188-97, college: Bucknell) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Alyssa Velles (178, college: St.Peter's) added 26 points and 6 rebounds respectively for IT Carlow in the defeat. Fr.Mathews' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Cork to the arena Glanmire.
