There was a small surprise when tenth ranked North Port (2-4) beat 7th ranked Phoenix (2-5) in Pasig 80-70 on Saturday. North Port forced 19 Phoenix turnovers. Strangely Phoenix outrebounded North Port 52-37 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when North Port made 7 blocks. Phoenix was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Naturalized Tongan center Moala Tautuaa (200-89, college: Chadron St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. American Mychal Ammons (198-92, college: S.Alabama) contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four North Port players scored in double figures. Naturalized American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: LBSU) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists and naturalized American swingman Alex Mallari (193-87, college: Lewis-Clark St.) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Phoenix.
