Regular Season Round 4: Venezia - Cantu 76-46
Date: October 13, 2019
There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Umana Venezia (2-2) crushed at home higher ranked Cantu (1-2) 76-46 on Sunday. Umana Venezia dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Cantu's 26. It was a very good performance for American forward Austin Daye (211-88, college: Gonzaga, agency: Alti Sport) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 5 rebounds. The former international swingman Stefano Tonut (194-93) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Four Umana Venezia players scored in double figures. American guard Corban Collins (190-94, college: Alabama) replied with 11 points and his fellow American import forward Jason Burnell (201-97, college: Jacksonville St.) added 8 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Cantu. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Cantu dropped to the twelfth position with two games lost. Umana Venezia will face Treviso (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cantu will play against Trento and hope to win that game.
