Regular Season Round 12: Astros - Santos 87-97

Date: October 17, 2019
There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Santos (4-5) defeated on the road 5th ranked Astros (5-6) 97-87. Santos shot the lights out from three nailing 16 long-distance shots on high 51.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. The winners were led by American point guard Raymond Cintron Cortes (183-90, college: MTSU) who scored that evening 18 points and 4 assists and the other American import point guard Tjader Fernandez (178-94) supported him with 21 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Even a double-double of 14 points and 13 assists by Venezuelan point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) did not help to save the game for Astros. Puerto Rican swingman Angel-Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) added 20 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Santos have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Huracanes. Newly promoted Astros keep the fifth position with six games lost. Santos' next round opponent will be higher ranked Capitanes (#4) in Mexico and it may be quite challenging game. Astros will play again on the road against Santos in San Luis Potosi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
