The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Brasilia (1-1) at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Flamengo (4-0) 86-81. They made 26-of-33 free shots (78.8 percent) during the game, while Brasilia only scored ten points from the stripe. Strangely Brasilia outrebounded Flamengo 42-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Brasilia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international forward Rafael Mineiro (208-88) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Center Ronald Reis (211-91) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international point guard Welington Dos-Santos (185-81) added 15 points and 7 assists in the effort for Brasilia. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Flamengo are looking forward to face Sao Paulo (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Brasilia will have a break next round.
