Regular Season Round 7: Shizuoka - Tokyo HT 51-78

Bottom-ranked Tokyo HT managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of five consecutive losses on Saturday night. This time they outleveled fifth-ranked Shizuoka 78-51. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 27-point difference suggests that Tokyo HT is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. Tokyo HT outrebounded Shizuoka 36-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American forward Marcellus Sommerville (200-82, college: Bradley) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Hiroya Ogane (180-89) helped adding 12 points. Four Tokyo HT players scored in double figures. At the losing side American-Irish forward Brian Voelkel (196-92, college: Vermont) responded with 0 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and point guard Ayumu Osawa (177-91) scored 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tokyo HT (2-5) moved-up to ninth place. Newly promoted Shizuoka dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Tokyo HT will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Shizuoka will play again at home against Tokyo HT (#9) and is hoping to win this game.
