Regular Season Round 4: Viterbo - Irpino 58-81

Very expected game when 11th ranked Viterbo (1-2) was crushed at home by fourth ranked Irpino (3-1) 81-58 on Sunday. Irpino dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Viterbo's 32 and had 24 for 37 from the free-throw line, while Viterbo only scored eight points from the stripe. Irpino forced 28 Viterbo turnovers and outrebounded them 48-31 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Viterbo was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Valentina Fabbri (196-85, agency: SPORTlab Agency) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds and guard Lucrezia Zanetti (175-97) who added 26 points and 6 steals during the contest. At the losing side Gaia Cirotti (-97) responded with 12 points and guard Lorenza Spirito (178-90) scored 7 points and 5 assists. Viterbo's coach gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Irpino moved-up to third place in A2. Viterbo at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eleventh position with two games lost. Irpino will face Civitanova (#13) in Civitanova Marche in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Viterbo will play on the road against Pistoia and hope to win that game.
