Regular Season Round 14: Santos - Capitanes 78-80

The most exciting game of round 14 in the LNBP took place in San Luis Potosi. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 8th ranked Santos (5-7) to first ranked Capitanes (9-3) 80-78 on Tuesday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The former international point guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (175-86, college: WKU, agency: Pro Sports) scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Hector Hernandez (205-85, college: Fresno St., agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. American center BJ West (211-89, college: Jackson St.) responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Tjader Fernandez (178-94) scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Capitanes and four Santos players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Capitanes maintains first position with 9-3 record, which they share with Aaguacateros and Soles. Santos at the other side dropped to the seventh place with seven games lost. Capitanes is looking forward to face Abejas (#5) in Guanajuato in the next round. Santos will play on the road against Angeles in Puebla and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
