Regular Season Round 1: Peja - Rahoveci 77-54

One of the most interesting games of round 1 was a derby match between two teams from Kosovo. Peja outleveled visiting Rahoveci (0-1) 77-54. It looked good early as Rahoveci took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Peja had a 20-12 second period charge getting the lead and Rahoveci was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 54-77. Peja dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Rahoveci's 32. They outrebounded Rahoveci 90-25 including a 79-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Peja players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Rahoveci's players. Center Ergin Grosha (211-93) nailed 2 points and 51 rebounds for the winning side and Croatian forward Henrik Sirko (198-93) accounted for 18 points and 10 rebounds. Four Peja players scored in double figures. Guard Arian Qallaku (195-92) came up with 21 points and 6 rebounds and Croatian forward Jure Gunjina (203-92, college: Georgia SW) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Rahoveci in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Peja will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Rahoveci will play at home against Ibar Rozaje (#1) to get more than just one victory in their record.
