Regular Season Round 5: Handlova - Prievidza 84-90

Bottom-ranked Handlova (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 90-84 loss to third ranked Prievidza (3-1) in Handlova on Wednesday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Prievidza looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Bosnian power forward Ibrahim Durmo (200-97) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and Serbian forward Nikola Gacesa (206-87, college: TCU) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Serbian point guard Stefan Mitrovic (195-96) responded with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international guard Marek Jass (194-90) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Prievidza moved-up to second place, which they share with Zilina. Handlova lost their fourth game in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Prievidza will meet at home Zilina (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Handlova will play against the league's leader Inter Bratislava (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
