Regular Season Round 5: Ponzano - San Martino 59-83

Everything could happen in Veneto at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked San Martino and 9th ranked Ponzano had identical 1-2 record. But Ponzano was not able to use a home court advantage and was smashed by the opponent from San Martino di L 83-59 on Saturday night. San Martino forced 20 Ponzano turnovers. The best player for the winners was guard Sara Toffolo (184-0) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field). Guard Elena Giordano (176-2) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Francesca Leonardi (184-2) produced 9 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Giulia Brotto (182-91) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. San Martino (2-2) moved-up to ninth place in A2. Loser Ponzano dropped to the eleventh position with three games lost. San Martino will face league's leader Moncalieri at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ponzano will play against Marghera (#14) and hope to win that game.
