Regular Season Round 7: Brest - GOCOR-Sozh 98-81

Brest can celebrate finally their first win this season after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat GOCOR-Sozh (0-5) 98-81. It looked good early as GOCOR-Sozh took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Brest took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 17 points. They also forced 22 GOCOR-Sozh turnovers. 35 personal fouls committed by GOCOR-Sozh helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for guard Anton Shchurko (188-97) who led the winners and scored 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Center Dmitriy Shved (196-98) accounted for 17 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Four Brest players scored in double figures. Guard Timofey Verevkin (185-93) came up with 29 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and swingman Evgeniy Ribkin (195-96) added 13 points and 11 rebounds respectively for GOCOR-Sozh in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Brest (1-3) left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with Tsmoki II. It was GOCOR-Sozh's fifth loss in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Brest's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Grodno-93 on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. GOCOR-Sozh will play against Tsmoki II (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
