There was a surprise result when tenth ranked San Salvatore (3-2) defeated on the road higher ranked Livorno (2-2) 51-38 on Saturday. San Salvatore held Livorno to an opponent 21.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.6 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Livorno 51-30 including a 39-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Delia Gagliano (180-97) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. The former international guard Cinzia Arioli (178-84, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. San Salvatore's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Power forward Francesca Orsini (185-95) produced 16 points and 8 rebounds and swingman Lisa Tripalo (176-87) added 7 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the hosts. San Salvatore moved-up to seventh place in A2. Newly promoted Livorno dropped to the ninth position with two games lost. San Salvatore will face Faenza (#8) at home in the next round.
