Regular Season Round 5: Taipans - United 90-85

There was a small surprise when sixth ranked Cairns Taipans (2-5) defeated at home their close opponent United (1-4) 90-85. Brazilian-American guard Scott Machado (186-90, college: Iona) nailed 14 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side and American forward Cameron Oliver (203-96, college: Nevada) accounted for 17 points and 11 rebounds. American forward Shawn Long (208-93, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Pensack Sports) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 17 rebounds and the other American import guard Melo Trimble (190-95, college: Maryland) added 21 points respectively for United in the defeat. Five Cairns Taipans and four United players scored in double figures. Despite that victory Cairns Taipans went down to seventh position due to points difference. United at the other side dropped to the eighth place with four games lost. Cairns Taipans will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. United will play at home against the league's leader Kings (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
