Regular Season Round 1: Army - Petrochimi 53-96

An interesting game was played in Tehran where Petrochimi crushed host Army with 43-point difference 96-53 on Thursday evening. Petrochimi dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Army's 24. Petrochimi forced 20 Army turnovers and outrebounded them 50-29 including a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 3 passes made by Army's players. The former international center Meisam Mirzaei (210-92) stepped up and scored 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and international Mohammad Hassanzadeh (203-90) chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds. Four Petrochimi players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Sattar Sheikh (200-0) responded with 13 points and 8 rebounds and Shahriar Gharinejhad scored 16 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Petrochimi will meet at home Mashad (#5) in the next round. Army will play against Gorgan and hope to win that game.
