No shocking result in a game in Kouvola where fourth ranked Kouvot (6-2) defeated 6th ranked KTP Basket (4-5) 98-86 on Friday. KTP Basket was trailing by 10 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 26-13 charge of Kouvot, which allowed them to win the game. They made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. American players dominated the game. The best player for the winners was forward Derrick Barden-Jr (196-92, college: N.Colorado) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Guard Silas Melson (193-96, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 19 points and 7 assists. Melson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. At the other side the best for losing team was forward DeAndre Daniels (203-92, college: Connecticut) who recorded 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and power forward Kevin Langford (203-85, college: TCU) added 19 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Kouvot moved-up to third place. Loser KTP Basket dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Kouvot will face Kauhajoki (#6) on the road in the next round. KTP Basket will play against Kataja and hope to win that game.
