Regular Season Round 7: Igualada - Martorell 69-71

Undefeated Igualada (6-1) recorded its first loss at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by thirteenth ranked Martorell (3-4) 71-69. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Igualada. Igualada was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 9-point lead after three quarters before a 25-14 charge of Martorell, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Igualada's 30. Strangely Igualada outrebounded Martorell 48-21 including a 20-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Sergio Pino who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points and 4 assists. Jordi Ramon (198-90) helped adding 13 points. At the losing side center Eduard Tejero (196-92) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and Carles Fons (189-91) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Martorell moved-up to seventh place in Group C-A, which they share with Esparreguera and Alfinden. Loser Igualada dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with Quart. Martorell will meet at home Andorra II (#13) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Igualada will play against the league's leader Vic (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
