Townsville Fire can celebrate their first win this season after four consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Perth, where they defeated Perth Lynx (1-4) 93-88 on Saturday. They outrebounded Perth Lynx 40-28 including 27 on the defensive glass. Townsville Fire looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Abby Bishop (189-88) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 31 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and New Zealand guard Micaela Cocks (174-86, college: Oregon) who added 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. At the losing side American guard Ariel Atkins (180-96, college: Texas) responded with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and her fellow American import swingman Alison Schwagmeyer (177-90, college: Quincy) scored 23 points. Four Perth Lynx players scored in double figures. Townsville Fire left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with Sydney Uni and Perth. It was Perth Lynx's fourth loss in a row. Townsville Fire will meet Sydney Uni Flames (#7) on the road in the next round. Perth Lynx will play against Sydney Uni Flames and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
