Regular Season Round 9: Ginebra Kings - Meralco Bolts 77-101

The most shocking disappointment of round 9 was a home defeat of 3rd placed Ginebra Kings (5-3) by fourth ranked Meralco Bolts (6-2) who outscored them by 24 points 101-77. It ended the four-game winning streak of Ginebra Kings. They outrebounded Ginebra Kings 52-34 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. American power forward Allen Durham (198-88, college: Grace Bible) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 7 assists (on 16-of-21 shooting from the field) for the winners and guard Chris Newsome (187-90, college: N.Mexico Highlands) chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds. Durham is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Meralco Bolts players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Justin Brownlee (197-88, college: St.John's) with 18 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Lewis Tenorio (177-84) scored 12 points and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Meralco Bolts have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Ginebra Kings at the other side dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Meralco Bolts are looking forward to face North Port (#8) in Pasig in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Ginebra Kings will play on the road against the league's second-placed TNT Ka Tropa in Makati and are hoping to win this game.
