Regular Season Round 7: Baskonia - Santurtzi 87-81

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Santurtzi (0-6) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked Baskonia (3-3) 87-81 on Sunday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Baskonia forced 21 Santurtzi turnovers. Strangely Santurtzi outrebounded Baskonia 43-27 including a 23-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Santurtzi was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Russian Pavel Savkov (200-2) fired 22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals for the winners. Alejandro Harguindey (200-2) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Sergio Iglesias (193-92) produced 27 points and 6 rebounds and forward Imanol Artinano (203-95, college: Alders.-Broad.) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Baskonia moved-up to seventh place in Group A-A, which they share with Nissan Burgos and Ardoi. Santurtzi lost their sixth game in a row. They still close the standings with six games lost. Baskonia will face Ardoi (#7) in Zizur Mayor in the next round. Santurtzi will play on the road against Zarautz (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
