Date: November 6, 2019
There was a surprise result when seventh ranked Kauhajoki (6-5) won against at home one of their biggest challengers Kouvot (6-3) 96-79 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Kauhajoki. Kouvot was better in second period 28-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kauhajoki dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Kouvot's 40 and made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Kauhajoki looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American players dominated the game. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Alex Thompson (203-95, college: Samford) who helped to win the game recording 29 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Evan Yates (198-91, college: Ashland) contributed with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Yates is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Guard Silas Melson (193-96, college: Gonzaga) replied with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Duke Shelton (208-95, college: Tampa) added 14 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Kouvot. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Kauhajoki have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place. Kouvot at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Kauhajoki will face Kataja (#5) in Joensuu in the next round. Kouvot will play at home against BC Nokia and hope to win that game.
