Regular Season Round 6: Pyrinto Ak.A - FoKoPo 78-77

Very expected game in Tampere where bottom-ranked FoKoPo (0-6) was edged by eighth ranked Pyrinto Ak.A (3-3) 78-77 on Thursday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-17. But FoKoPo won third quarter 23-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pyrinto Ak.A looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Forward Matti Meldo (190-96) scored 23 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Eero Lehtonen (195-98) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Four Pyrinto Ak.A players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Arnold Fripp (201-93, college: Coppin St.) with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and forward Aku Haikonen (201-96) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Pyrinto Ak.A maintains eighth position in Division with 3-3 record. Loser FoKoPo still closes the standings with six games lost. Pyrinto Ak.A will face higher ranked Oulun NMKY (#5) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. FoKoPo will play against Raiders Basket (#11) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
