Regular Season Round 6: Valur - Njardvik 53-77

An interesting game took place in Reykjavik where higher ranked Valur (3-3) was upset on its own court by tenth ranked Njardvik (2-4) 77-53. Valur was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 42-17 second half run of Njardvik. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Valur to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Valur's 24. Njardvik forced 20 Valur turnovers and outrebounded them 45-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. It was a good game for Croatian forward Mario Matasovic (203-93, college: Sacred Heart) who led his team to a victory with 16 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard Chaz Williams (175-91, college: Massachusetts, agency: Green Sports Management) contributed with 8 points and 7 assists for the winners. International guard Frank Booker (191-94, college: S.Carolina, agency: Inception Sports) replied with 21 points and the former international guard Pavel Ermolinskij (202-87) added 6 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Valur. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Njardvik moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Grindavik. Valur at the other side dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Njardvik's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Thor AK (#12) in Akureyri.
