Regular Season Round 18: Memphis G. - Orlando M. 86-118
Date: November 8, 2019
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Memphis where one of their biggest challengers Grizzlies (2-6) were crushed by fifth ranked Magic (3-6) 118-86 on Friday. Magic dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Grizzlies' 42 and made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Grizzlies 57-36 including a 45-32 advantage in defensive rebounds. Magic looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Magic made 10 blocks. Montenegrin center Nikola Vucevic (213-90, college: USC) had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and French Evan Fournier (198-92) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Five Magic players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Lithuanian center Jonas Valanciunas (213-92) with 15 points and 9 rebounds and Canadian-American Brandon Clarke (203-96, college: Gonzaga) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Magic moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Grizzlies keep the fourth position with six games lost. Magic will have a break next day. Grizzlies will play on the road against the league's leader Mavericks (#1) in Dallas and hope to win that game.
