Regular Season Round 6: Puerto Montt - CD Valdivia 81-66

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Deportivo Valdivia (3-2) against fifth ranked Puerto Montt (2-3) on Saturday night. Visiting Deportivo Valdivia was defeated by Puerto Montt in Puerto Montt 81-66. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Deportivo Valdivia. They outrebounded Deportivo Valdivia 45-33 including 31 on the defensive glass. Puerto Montt players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Akeem Ellis (198-90, college: Coppin St.) who scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Maltese center Samuel Deguara (225-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Argentinian center Ignacio Alessio (203-87) who recorded 24 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Rashad Madden (196-92, college: Arkansas) added 12 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Puerto Montt moved-up to fourth place, which they share with CDU Catolica. Defending champion Deportivo Valdivia keeps the third position with two games lost. Puerto Montt's next round opponent will be CD Puerto Varas (#6) at home. Deportivo Valdivia's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Valdivia to the arena Las Animas.
