Regular Season Round 7: Mantova - Ponzano 61-85

Not a big story in a game when 14th ranked Mantova (1-6) was outscored at home by tenth ranked Ponzano (3-3) 85-61 on Saturday. Ponzano made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 28 Mantova turnovers. Mantova was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for power forward Costanza Miccoli (182-95) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 16 rebounds. Croatian Ruzica Dzankic (179-94) contributed with 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Slovenian center Katja Kotnik (190-90, college: Eckerd) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and Ilaria Bernardoni added 13 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Mantova. Four Mantova players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Ponzano moved-up to eighth place in A2. Newly promoted Mantova dropped to the thirteenth position with six games lost. Ponzano will face higher ranked Sarcedo (#5) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mantova will play against San Martino (#11) in San Martino di L and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
