Regular Season Round 6: Gran Canaria - Mataro Parc 56-59

There was a surprise result in Las Palmas where thirteenth ranked Mataro Parc (4-8) edged higher ranked Gran Canaria (9-3) 59-56 on Saturday. Strangely Gran Canaria outrebounded Mataro Parc 49-37 including a 24-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Nuria Checa who scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Center Marta Arbizu (187-91) chipped in 10 points and 5 rebounds. Mataro Parc's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Senegalese Sokhna Fall (185, college: Casper CC) who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Sparkle Taylor (178-95, college: UTEP) added 12 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Mataro Parc moved-up to eleventh place in Group B, which they share with Segle XXI. Loser Gran Canaria still keeps top position with three games lost. Mataro Parc will face higher ranked Ardoi (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Gran Canaria will play against Lima-Horta in Barcelona and hope to win that game.
