Regular Season Round 7: Breidablik - Grindavik 70-64

Breidablik's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after six consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Grindavik (0-7) 70-64 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-19. But Grindavik won second period 19-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Breidablik dominated on the defensive end, holding Grindavik to just 5 points in third quarter. They also forced 21 Grindavik turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Violet-Kapri Morrow (173-97, college: EWU) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. International guard Bjork Gunnarsdottir (160-98) accounted for 16 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Four Breidablik players scored in double figures. American forward Kamilah Jackson (183-92, college: Hawaii) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals and international swingman Briet Hinriksdottir (181-96) added 14 points respectively for Grindavik in the defeat. Grindavik's coach Johann Olafsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Breidablik maintains seventh place with 1-6 record. It was Grindavik's seventh loss in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with seven games lost. Breidablik will meet at home higher ranked Snaefell (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Grindavik will play against the league's leader Valur having rather not much hope for a victory.
