Regular Season Round 9: Ponferrada CDP - Zamorano 88-74

There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Ponferrada CDP (3-6) won against at home higher ranked Zamorano (4-5) 88-74 on Sunday. Ponferrada CDP forced 21 Zamorano turnovers. The best player for the winners was guard Andrew Ramirez (188-97, college: Hartford) who scored 17 points and 7 assists. Daniel Fernandez (195-99) chipped in 25 points. Five Ponferrada CDP players scored in double figures. Ponferrada CDP's coach David Barrio allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Ryan Nicholas (201-91, college: Portland) who recorded 25 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and Slovenian guard Ziga Samar (193-1) added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Ponferrada CDP moved-up to eleventh place in Silver. Loser Zamorano keeps the sixth position with five games lost. Ponferrada CDP will face higher ranked Estela (#3) in Santander in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
