Regular Season Round 8: Baskonia - Ardoi 60-80

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Ardoi and 9th ranked Baskonia had identical 3-3 record. But Baskonia was not able to use a home court advantage and was outplayed by the opponent from Zizur Mayor 80-60 on Sunday night. Ardoi dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Baskonia's 36. Ardoi forced 20 Baskonia turnovers and outrebounded them 45-31 including a 37-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was guard Pope Urtasun (187-80) who scored 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Naturalized Ukrainian forward Anton Savitski (196-86) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Czech guard Ondrej Hanzlik (193-2) produced 11 points and 7 rebounds and Senegalese forward Pape Sow (203-3) added 10 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Ardoi have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place in Group A-A, which they share with Nissan Burgos and La Fecha. Loser Baskonia keeps the ninth position with four games lost. Ardoi will face higher ranked Zarautz (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Baskonia will play against Valle de Egues (#11) in Olaz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
