There was no surprise when one of their biggest challengers Jairis (4-4) was defeated on the road by second ranked Gandia (6-1) 86-71 on Wednesday. The best player for the winners was point guard Joaquin Rodenas (186-90) who scored 20 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Naturalized American center Shalawn Miller (205-74, college: UMass Lowell) chipped in 19 points and 8 rebounds. Italian-Argentinian Juan-Ignacio Jasen (200-85) produced 9 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists and point guard Juan Ballesta (181-92) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gandia have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position in Group E-B with 6-1 record behind leader Tarragona. Loser Jairis dropped to the third place with four games lost. Gandia will face Calpe (#5) on the road in the next round. Jairis will play against Cartagena and hope to win that game.
