Very important is a road loss of second ranked Capitanes (14-5) against sixth ranked Astros (11-11) on Thursday night. Visiting Capitanes were defeated by Astros in 91-76. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Capitanes. Astros looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Puerto Rican swingman Angel-Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) notched 21 points to lead the effort and international center Jose-Israel Gutierrez (206-93) supported him with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Even 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by American-Puerto Rican forward Emmanuel Andujar (198-93, college: Manhattan) did not help to save the game for Capitanes. The former international point guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez (175-86, college: WKU, agency: Pro Sports) added 13 points and 6 assists for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Capitanes' coach tested ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Newly promoted Astros maintains sixth position with 11-11 record. Loser Capitanes dropped to the third place with five games lost. Astros will meet higher ranked Abejas (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Capitanes will play against Angeles and hope to secure a win.
