Regular Season Round 9: Gijon Basket - Estudiantes L. 64-65

There was an upset when 4th placed Gijon Basket (4-3) was edged at home by thirteenth ranked Estudiantes L. (2-5) 65-64 on Saturday. It was a good game for Mark Hetor (197-1) who saved his team from a defeat with 8 points and 18 rebounds. Gabriel Gomez (195-95) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Guard Alejandro Rubiera (190-98) answered with 27 points and forward Fernando Fernandez (201-89, college: Hannibal-LG, agency: Dynamics Global Management) added 13 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Gijon Basket. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Estudiantes L. moved-up to twelfth place in Group A-B. Loser Gijon Basket dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Estudiantes L. will face higher ranked Chantada (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gijon Basket will play against Fontedoso Carrefour where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
