Regular Season Round 10: Estela - Ponferrada CDP 80-76

Everything went according to plan when third ranked Estela (7-3) defeated 11th ranked Ponferrada CDP (3-7) in Santander 80-76 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Estela forced 23 Ponferrada CDP turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Estela made 8 blocks. Quite impressive performance for Mikel Sanz (200-99, agency: Dynamics Global Management) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Forward Carlos Toledo (200-94) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Four Estela players scored in double figures. American forward Sean McDonnell (203, college: Westmont) replied with 19 points and 5 rebounds and Daniel Fernandez (195-99) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Ponferrada CDP. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Estela maintains third position in Silver with 7-3 record behind leader Juaristi ISB. Newly promoted Ponferrada CDP dropped to the twelfth place with seven games lost. Estela will face Navarra (#5) in Pamplona in the next round. Ponferrada CDP will play at home against Algeciras (#8) and hope to win that game.
