Regular Season Round 9: Jairis - Cartagena 89-69

Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Jairis (5-4) outplayed at home 8th ranked Cartagena (1-7) 89-69 on Sunday. Jairis dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Cartagena's 36. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Cartagena's players. It was a good game for American forward Romeo Smith (201-95, college: Missouri Valley) who led his team to a victory with 31 points. Italian-Argentinian Juan-Ignacio Jasen (200-85) contributed with 6 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Jairis' coach Pepe Llorente let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Guard Francisco Guillem (187-0) answered with 20 points and 5 rebounds and Lithuanian point guard Zilvinas Kuklierius (180-85) added 19 points in the effort for Cartagena. Four Cartagena players scored in double figures. Jairis moved-up to third place in Group E-B. Cartagena lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the eighth position with seven games lost. Jairis will face L'Alfas (#9) in Alfas Del Pi in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Cartagena will play on the road against Calpe and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
